Dell rejected Windows 10 ARM because of Windows Phone disaster

Dell is one of the biggest Microsoft partners in the personal computer sector. At the same time, it is one of the companies that decided to stay away from Microsoft’s recent ambition – Windows 10 ARM. This version of Windows is being developed specifically for mobile devices using ARM architecture.

Thanks to the leading Qualcomm ARM product, Snapdragon, Windows 10 provides an excellent battery life, creditable productivity for a laptop. According to test data, Snapdragon 835 reaches the same benchmarks as Intel Core i3-6006U during emulation of Win32 applications. Overall, software packages and apps are expected to be almost identical with a desktop version of Windows.

However, Dell decided that it is not going to invest in the creation of Windows 10 notebooks on ARM architecture as it might be too risky at this stage. Indeed, if we recall Microsoft’s experiments with Windows Phone 7, 8, Windows 10 Mobile, Windows RT, and, of course, the infamous demise of Nokia, we can easily understand Dell’s hesitation. Getting involved in business with a company that drags a carriage full of dead bodies might not be the wisest decision.

Nevertheless, as we wrote before, HP and ASUS do not lose their hopes. They are the first companies that already introduced devices for Windows 10 ARM. Two more companies decided to accept this challenge, Xiaomi, and Samsung. We will see what come out of it soon.
